NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Carson Smith (
So.-Kaukauna, Wis.) and
Jesse Burg (
Jr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) both won three matches and the Lakeland University men's wrestling team picked up a pair of dual wins in the Gator 'Boots' Duals hosted by Luther (Iowa) College in Nashville on Saturday.
The Muskies finished with a 2-2 record in duals on a day in four matches against national competition. Lakeland defeated the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) 26-25 and Huntingdon (Ala.) College 40-12 and lost to 18th-ranked Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University 42-8 and Ursinus (Pa.) College 37-11.
Smith finished with a 3-1 record on the day competing in matches at 149 pounds. He posted a key pin against Ozarks, defeating Benjamin Beaty in six minutes, and also was one of two Muskies to earn a win against Ursinus, taking down Jacob Sheiner by fall in 4:26.
Burg also finished 3-1 at 157 lbs., including an 8-0 major decision over Hayden Rofkahr of the University of the Ozarks. He also added one of two Lakeland wins against nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace with a 10-0 major decision over Caleb Hoffman.
Caleb Hillshafer (
Fr.-West Bend, Wis.),
Jacob Hillshafer (
Fr.-West Bend, Wis.) and
Evan Haferkorn (
Jr.-Norway, Mich.) also all added two wins each in duals.
Jacob Hillshafer and Haferkorn both were victors in the narrow win over Ozarks, including Hillshafer with a 21-8 major decision over Luke Adams at 141 lbs. and Haferkorn pinning Tristen Riemer at 165 lbs. in 1:13.
Caleb Hillshafer was the second Muskie to earn a win against Baldwin Wallace, defeating Chazz Tallarigo 10-1 at 125 lbs.
Dillon Raab (
Jr.-Spalding, Mich.) also won twice competing in the scramble portion of the duals, including a pin of Liam Delaney of Baldwin Wallace and an 11-0 major decision over Ryan Lepore of Alvernia (Pa.) University.
