MOLINE, Ill. –
Khalila Corry (
Jr.-Shelby, N.C.) and
Niyasia McCampbell (
Jr.-Amarillo, Texas) both placed in their classes as the Lakeland University women's wrestling team competed at the Quad Cities Division 3 National Invitational, which concluded Sunday at Augustana College's Roy J. Carver Center.
Corry finished fourth at 207 pounds and McCampbell came in seventh at 180 lbs., giving the Muskies two finishers in the top seven of their four competing in the event. Lakeland finished with a total of 27 team points, placing 15th of 26 teams competing in the event.
Corry posted a 3-2 record in her class, including a pair of wins to advance to the semifinals. She earned a close 7-5 decision over Natalie Espinoza of Schreiner (Texas) University in her opener and topped Alivia Davey of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh by technical fall before losing a 7-2 decision to Savannah Sistad of Simpson (Iowa) College in the semis. Corry came back to win by pin in the consolation semifinals before falling to Abbie Miles of Albion (Mich.) College in the third-place match.
McCampbell finished 4-2 at 180 lbs., winning her first two matches before a loss in the quarterfinals to Simpson's Jenna Joseph. McCampbell came back for a 9-0 decision over Paris Willis of Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University before taking her second loss, but was the winner of the seventh-place match via forfeit.
