MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –Fulton Stroud (Fr.-Iron Mountain, Mich.) and Jesse Burg (So.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) both completed strong runs with top-six finishes for the Lakeland University men's wrestling team as it concluded competition Saturday at the NCAA Division III Region VII Regional hosted by Augsburg University.

Stroud capped a big weekend by finishing with a 4-2 record and placing fifth at 174 pounds, as well as being recognized as the wrestler of the regional to record the most falls in the least amount of time. Burg also posted a 3-3 record at 149 lbs. and finished sixth, as the Muskies scored 36 points as a team to place 12th of 16 teams competing at the regional.

Stroud won two of three matches on Friday and posted another win to open Saturday, pinning Jack Miller of Augustana (Ill.) College in 1 minute, 2 seconds. He lost in the consolation semifinal to Carson Trotzer of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, but then clinched fifth place with a pin of Zach Pribyl of Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) in 1:15.

The win over Pribyl was Stroud's 20th of the season, and his fifth-place regional finish was the best by a Muskie since Mitchell Fucile came in second in his class on the way to becoming the most recent Lakeland wrestler to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Stroud also finished the regional with all four of his wins by fall. The four pins came in a combined 8:26, including three of his four pins coming in 2:18 or less.

Burg also came into Saturday after posting a 2-1 record on Friday, and he continued to advance with a 5-0 decision over Michael Rodriguez of Augustana. Burg lost in the consolation semifinals in a major decision against Josh Chera of UW-La Crosse, and his fifth-place match went down to the wire before losing a slim 6-5 decision to Ashton Massaro of Aurora University.

Burg finished the season with a team-best 21 wins. Stroud and Burg also posted the best finishes by a pair of Lakeland wrestlers since the Muskies boasted three top-5 finishers at regionals in 2016.
