Series history: The Muskies and Sabres are longtime rivals whose history goes back to Lakeland's early years playing the sport in the 1970s and who have played each other regularly since the days of the Lake Michigan Conference. Complete records are unavailable, but Lakeland holds a 71-16 advantage in 87 meetings since 1982-83. The Muskies have beaten Marian eight straight times, including a 60-52 win on the road in Fond du Lac just over two weeks ago on Dec. 29. Lakeland defeated the Sabres three times in all in calendar year 2025, including a 66-54 win at Marian on Feb. 22 and a 75-61 victory in their last meeting at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium almost a year ago on Jan. 15, 2025. Marian's last win over Lakeland came Jan. 25, 2022, with a 66-62 win at home that was their first win over the Muskies since 2014 and snapped a 13-game losing streak in the series. Lakeland has dominated the series over a long stretch, winning 61 of the last 66 versus the Sabres.

Lakeland last time out: Lost to Benedictine 69-68 Saturday
The Muskies saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a narrow loss to the Eagles at home on Saturday in NACC play. Lakeland withstood a hot start in which Benedictine jumped out to a 25-10 lead in the first quarter, as the Muskies flew back into the game with a 23-7 run to take the lead late in the second quarter. The game settled down into a close affair from there, with the Eagles holding a slim lead most of the way though Lakeland came back to tie the game early in the fourth quarter and still trailed by one point with less than seven minutes to play. A.T. Bartlett tied career highs with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for the game's final points. Alexis Johnson also added 19 points, making 8 of 10 shots from the field. The Muskies shot 45.9% and outrebounded Benedictine 43-34, but committed 24 turnovers and surrendered 17 fast break points to the Eagles.

Marian last time out: Lost to Dominican 69-51 Saturday
The Sabres also were defeated at home on Saturday, falling to the Stars in Fond du Lac. Like Lakeland's game against Benedictine, visiting Dominican also started fast with a 21-8 lead in the first quarter, but Marian rallied to within 26-25 at halftime. The Sabres never would take the lead, though, as the Stars outscored Marian 24-10 in the third quarter and went on to the win. Chelsea King scored 12 points and Taycee Schwanke added 10 for Marian, which shot 31.5% from the field, made just 10 of 23 free throws (43.5%) and committed 23 turnovers. Marian's loss was its fifth straight and 13th in 14 games, with its lone win coming against Maranatha Baptist on the road Dec. 16. The Sabres finished 7-18 overall last year and 5-11 in the NACC.

Recapping the first meeting: The teams' first meeting was a non-conference matchup in a game scheduled between the teams in place of their respective games against Alverno before the Inferno canceled their season. Lakeland never trailed in the game and led by as many as 20 points, but had to hold on when Marian closed to within five points late in the game. Meghan MacPhee scored a career-high 20 points for the Muskies, hitting 10 of 14 from the field, and also added six rebounds. Alexis Johnson also added 15 points, and Lakeland posted a 48-31 rebound advantage in the game.
