ELMHURST, Ill. –
Niyasia McCampbell (
Sr.-Amarillo, Texas) and
Olivia Hovey (
So.-Rio Rancho, N.M.) both accounted for top-three finishes for the Lakeland University women's wrestling team at the Elmhurst University Women's Invitational on Sunday.
McCampbell finished with a 3-1 record at 207 pounds, which included decision wins over a pair of North Central (Ill.) College wrestlers and another over teammate
Aubrey Miller-Ramirez (
Fr.-Griffith, Ind.). In the final match in a round-robin which decided the top finisher in the class, McCampbell was defeated by Dasia Yearby of North Central by fall in 1 minute, 6 seconds.
Hovey posted a 3-1 record at 145 lbs., earning a decision over UW–Stevens Point wrestler Riley Ensing 6-0 and a 1-1 criteria win over the Pointers' Kaylei Sanford. Hovey later in the third-place match pinned Grace Johnson of Elmhurst 40 seconds into the second period.
Jalah Wilson (
Fr.-Phoenix, Ill.) also finished 3-2 at 160 lbs. After losing her first match by fall, Wilson bounced back by winning the next three matches, including pins of Samantha Meyer of Bryant & Stratton College and Clara Rice of Elmhurst.
