Series history: 35th meeting, series tied 17-17
The Muskies and Spartans play for the first and only time this season, with the teams only slated to play once in the unbalanced Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule. Lakeland is looking for its first win in the series in a while, as Aurora has won six straight, including by a 65-54 score last year on Feb. 19, 2025. Lakeland's last win in the series was more than four years ago, a 60-57 victory at home Dec. 11, 2021. The series between the schools dates back to Dec. 3, 1982, when the Spartans won the first matchup 64-62 at the Muskies' Wehr Center Fieldhouse.
Lakeland last time out: Lost at Wisconsin Lutheran 88-61 Wednesday
The Warriors got off to a hot start and defeated the Muskies for the second time this season. Wisconsin Lutheran scored 29 points in the first quarter, led 47-31 at halftime and broke the game wide open with a 21-7 run through the third quarter. Lakeland shot 33.9% for the game, making 19 of 56 shots, and also committed 29 turnovers.
A.T. Bartlett scored 17 points and added seven rebounds and seven steals,
Sydney Nimsakont scored 14 points off the bench and
Meghan MacPhee added seven points.
The Muskies lost for the third time in four games, as injuries have affected the roster considerably and the team had just 10 players available against Concordia Chicago last Saturday. Just four players-MacPhee,
Jiaryatou Cisse,
Alexis Johnson and
Lydia Levra-have played in all 17 games coming into Saturday, and Johnson is joined by Bartlett and
Lauryn Johnson as the only Muskies to start at least 10 games so far.
Aurora last time out: Won at Concordia Chicago 102-54 Wednesday
The Spartans blasted the Cougars on the road, scoring 51 points in both halves in an easy win. Aurora built a 51-23 lead by halftime and continued to build the lead in the second half in winning its third straight game. The Spartans made 17 three-pointers in the game with 10 different players hitting at least one three. Krystyna Manzanarez scored 20 points, Kylie Fischbach totaled 16 points and 10 rebounds and Aurora Eklund added 13 points.
About the Spartans: Aurora is 14-3 overall and has regularly run up big scores against its opponents in victories, outscoring opponents by an average of 25.5 points per game on the season. The Spartans have lost twice in the NACC, falling to Wisconsin Lutheran and also to an Edgewood team that Lakeland defeated earlier this month. Aurora won 58 games over the previous three years and has been a regular in the upper division of the conference, finishing in the top four each of the last three years.
