Series history:Â The series between Lakeland and Edgewood goes back to Lakeland's early years of playing women's basketball. Complete series records are unavailable, but in known meetings the Muskies hold a 40-32 all-time series lead. The Eagles have controlled the series of late, though, winning the last 10 matchups, including the teams' lone meeting last season, a 76-63 Edgewood victory Jan. 18, 2025. In a quirk of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference scheduling, the Eagles have hosted Lakeland the last three times the teams have played, with the Muskies' last opportunity versus Edgewood at home an 85-56 loss Jan. 22, 2022. Prior to Edgewood's recent streak in the series that dates back to Nov. 2018, the Muskies had won six straight over the Eagles, including most recently a 63-54 win at home Jan. 16, 2018.
Lakeland last time out: Won at Dominican 48-47 Saturday
In their first game of 2026, the Muskies battled through for their fourth straight win and fourth win in a row on the road, holding off the Stars on the road in River Forest, Ill.
Alexis Johnson scored the go-ahead points with 20.5 seconds left and Lakeland got a pair of defensive stops in the final seconds to hold on after Dominican came back from nine points down with just over three minutes left to take the lead in the final minute. Johnson and
A.T. Bartlett scored 12 points each, Bartlett added eight rebounds and three steals and
Sadie Grabow chipped in five points and six rebounds off the bench as Lakeland won despite shooting a season-low 26.1%.
The Muskies' four-game road winning streak is their longest in nearly seven years, since the 2018-19 team won four in a row on the road from Jan. 26-Feb. 9, 2019. Lakeland that season twice won four straight road games, also performing the feat earlier that season from Dec. 15, 2018-Jan. 12, 2019. The Muskies finished that season with a 9-3 road record and a 20-6 mark overall, the program's most recent 20-win season.
Edgewood last time out: Won at Rockford 66-49 Saturday
The Eagles started and finished strong in remaining undefeated in the NACC with a road win against the Regents. Edgewood outscored Rockford 20-8 in the first quarter, including an 11-0 run to take control. The Eagles led by as much as 19 midway through the third quarter but the Regents went on a 16-3 run to get as close as 48-42 early in the fourth period. Edgewood followed with a 14-0 run of its own to put the game away, outscoring the hosts 18-9 in the last 10 minutes. Ella Hamacher scored 17 points off the bench and added six rebounds and Taylor Wollin scored 12 points and added six rebounds.
About the Eagles: Edgewood's season includes a three-game winning streak of its own on the road in NACC play, with victories also at Marian and Concordia Wisconsin as well as a home win against Concordia Chicago. The Eagles have faced a tough non-conference schedule and went 2-6 out of league, but the team has four new starters this year after finishing 14-12 overall last year and 10-6 in the NACC, the team's eighth straight year posting at least nine conference wins.
