RIPON, Wis. –
Elise Torrenga (
Fr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) set a new Lakeland University indoor record in the women's mile as the Muskies completed competition at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Indoor Championships Saturday.
Torrenga finished 11th in the women's mile with a time of 5 minutes, 54.05 seconds, just .08 out of first place in the first of two heats. She broke the 12-year old modern era record set by Stephanie Knepfel, who ran the mile in 5:57.28 in 2014.
Torrenga also finished 14th in the 800 with a time of 2:38.13, slightly off her previous Lakeland indoor record set earlier this season. The Lakeland women's team also recorded season bests in the 200 where
Emily Guy (
Jr.-Glendale Heights, Ill.) came in 23rd with a time of 30.74, a full .75 faster than her previous best this year, and
Nailah Jones (
Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) crossed in 32.64, almost a second better than her previous PR.
The men's team was led by
Morgan Caho (
So.-Canton, Ill.), who came in 12th in the high jump tying his season best topping out at 5 feet, 10 3/4 inches (1.80 meters). Caho also was 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.55, a season best by two tenths of a second.
Patrick Reilly (
Fr.-Brookfield, Wis.) came in 14th in the 400, with his time of 53.66 more than six tenths better than his previous season best.
Dunia Wangu (
So.-Tanzania) came in 17th in the 200 in 23.97, and
Preston Dos Santos (
So.-Random Lake, Wis.) set his best marks of the season in the 200 (26.35) and the long jump with a personal record mark of 20-4 1/4 (6.20m).
Caho, Reilly,
Konnor Korb (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and
Tayetum Southworth (
Fr.-Elkhart Lake, Wis.) also ran the 4 x 400 relay for the first time this season, and the quartet finished 10th with a time of 3:47.74.
The Muskies now get ready for their outdoor season beginning with the St. Norbert College Early Bird Meet Saturday, March 28 in De Pere.
