Carly Brault (
Brillion, Wis.) and
Rachel Conery (
Vulcan, Mich.) paired up for a doubles win on their Senior Day as the Lakeland University women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season with losses to Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday at Sports Core.
Brault and Conery defeated Wisconsin Lutheran's Taylor Bergman and Reebee Ratkowski 8-5 at No. 3 singles in the afternoon, giving the Muskies one of their bright spots in a 7-2 loss. Lakeland also was defeated by MSOE 7-2 in its first dual of the day, finishing up its regular season with a 4-10 overall mark and 4-5 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Despite the losses, Lakeland has clinched the sixth seed in the NACC Tournament, which will be played in the spring April 30 and May 6, 2018. The Muskies will make just their second trip to the conference tournament in its 11-year history of hosting women's tennis.
Lakeland was competitive in both matches with two wins in each and a number of narrow losses.
Calley Wesemann (
Fr.-Watertown, Wis.) had the Muskies' lone singles win against WLC, defeating Amanda Las 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, but Brault won the first set before succumbing to Katarina Volkmann 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 at Nor. 4 singles. Wesemann also paired with
Ellie Roe (
Fr.-Plymouth, Wis.) at No. 1 doubles, falling 8-5 to Emily Boyd and Paige Potaracke.
The Muskies' wins against MSOE both came in singles, including Wesemann winning again at No. 5 against Riya Chaudhari 6-0, 6-0.
Abby Juozapaitis (
Fr.-North Prairie, Wis.) also added a win, defeating Olivia Boden 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
