APPLETON, Wis. – The Lakeland University men's and women's cross country teams took advantage of running the same course for the second week in a row to again post season-best times across the board at the Wisconsin Private College Championships.
All five runners on the Muskies' men's team posted personal bests and all five on the Lakeland women's team posted their quickest times of the season at the Reid Golf Course. Lakeland also fielded full scoring squads on both sides, with the men's team finishing seventh and the women's squad 10th in the team standings.
Noah Lutzke (
So.-Orfordville, Wis.) posted the best individual finish for the Muskies, finishing 22nd in the men's eight-kilometer race with a time of 27 minutes, 24.7 seconds. Lutzke cut more than 40 seconds off his previous best time set a week earlier on the same course.
Kevon Holbrook (
Jr.-Bourbonnais, Ill.) from an injury that sidelined him in recent weeks and finished just behind Lutzke in 24th. His time of 27:30.4 was a minute and a half better than his previous personal best.
Travis Eitel (
So.-Pine Island, Minn.) also finished 50th with a clocking of 29:27.6,
Rhett Botzet (
So.-Appleton, Wis.) was 70th in 30:54.4 and
Sam Scharenbroch (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) was 77th with a time of 31:30.9. A total of 98 runners finished in a full field on the men's side.
Kayla Bruton (
Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) paced the Lakeland women's team for the second straight week, coming in 46th individually with a time of 26:30.0 in the 6K, 13 seconds better than her season best.
Nathalie Cairo (
Sr.-Kenosha, Wis.) was just behind Bruton, finishing 48th with a time of 26:38.1.
Emily Petersen (
Sr.-Menominee, Mich.) placed 84th with a time of 29:11.4, nearly 33 seconds better than a week earlier.
Mya Fettes (
Jr.-Johnsburg, Ill.) cut nearly 30 seconds off her season best, finishing five spots behind Petersen in 29:33.5.
Bailee Nessinger (
Sr.-Brussels, Wis.) also came across in 33:26.5 to round out the Lakeland lineup.
Lakeland finishes its season at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships in two weeks on Oct. 30 in Mequon on the campus of Concordia University Wisconsin.
