Muskies, Wilson third heading into final round of NACC women’s golf championship

RACINE, Wis. – The Lakeland University women's golf team held steady in the standings after 36 holes and remains third in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship heading into the tourney's final round Sunday at Meadowbrook Country Club.

The Muskies finished Saturday's second round in the same spot they started, in third in the team standings. Lakeland shot a team score of 396 in extremely windy conditions, the third-best team score of the day, and Lakeland holds a team score of 785 through 36 holes.

Aurora University separated from the pack on Saturday with a team score of 375 that puts the Spartans with their total of 760 a full 20 strokes ahead of second-place St. Norbert College. Three teams are separated by just nine strokes in the chase for second, with Marian University just four shots behind Lakeland with a 789.

Aurora also holds the top two spots in the individual standings led by Kallie Sakamoto, who shot her second straight 83 and now at 166 overall holds an eight-shot lead over teammate Avary Henry in second. Lakeland's Ali Wilson (Jr.-Lincoln, Ill.) is in third, six more strokes behind Henry with a score of 180.

Wilson shot a round of 91 on Saturday that included a 45 on the first nine and a 46 on the back. After scoring eight pars in her first-round 89 on Friday, Wilson finished with five pars on Saturday, including consecutive level scores on holes 7 and 8 and again on 11 and 12.

Cameron Lee (Fr.-Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) moved up the standings on Saturday into a tie for seventh after a 92 left her at 190 for the tourney. Lee was tied for 12th after the first day, but her 92 that included four pars was the fourth-lowest round of the day.

MaKenzie Suhr (So.-Janesville, Wis.) is tied for 19th individually with a score of 206 after a 109 on Saturday. Maddie Perkins (So.-Edgerton, Wis.) moved up three spots to 24th after her second straight round of 105, and Ashley Trapp (So.-Cascade, Wis.) is at 215 overall and tied for 28th after a 108 on Saturday.

Lakeland will be one of the earliest teams to hit the course Sunday when it tees off at 9:50 a.m. starting on the No. 1 tee. The top four teams will tee of from No. 1 while the remaining teams will begin on the back nine with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
