Nathalie Cairo (Sr.-Kenosha, Wis.) cut more than 40 seconds off her previous season best time and led the Lakeland University men's and women's cross country teams at the Ken Hoffman Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on its campus Saturday.

Cairo finished in 28 minutes, 3.1 seconds, a time 42 seconds better than her top six-kilometer time this season. She finished 97th individually and was one of two Lakeland women to finish. She was joined by Emily Petersen (Sr.-Menominee, Mich.), who also chopped 13 seconds off her previous season best in finishing in 31:12.4.

The Lakeland men's team was again led by Kevon Holbrook (Jr.-Kankakee, Ill.), who was 100th in a huge men's field of nearly 200 runners. Holbrook finished the 8K course in 29:34.0 and was one of four Muskies men to finish.

Noah Lutzke (So.-Orfordville, Wis.) again was Lakeland's No. 2 runner and finished in 30:08.1. Travis Eitel (So.-Pine Island, Minn.) also completed the course in 31:43.3, and Rhett Botzet (So.-Appleton, Wis.) improved nearly a minute over his season-best 8K time, finishing in 33:45.3.

UW-Whitewater won the men's team title, edging Washington University-St. Louis by one point. Washington U. won the women's title, boasting the top five individual finishers in the women's race.

Lakeland is idle next week before returning to competition Saturday, Oct. 2, when it competes at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College. The men's race will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's race to follow at noon.
