MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Farouk Shaaban (Jr.-Barrington, Ill.) and Diego Morales (So.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) both had strong finishes in the heavyweight class for the Lakeland University men's wrestling team at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational hosted by Cornell College Saturday.

Shaaban finished fourth individually and Morales was the top finisher in the consolation bracket at 285 pounds in the Gold Division. The two led Lakeland in the event that featured 19 teams on hand, including six nationally ranked teams.

Shaaban opened with three straight wins to advance to the semifinals, including a 2-0 decision over Jackson Kirsch of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in the quarterfinals. After a semifinal loss he came back to pin Tyler Casey of St. Ambrose (Iowa) University in 2 minutes, 17 seconds, before losing to Jake Walker of Wartburg (Iowa) College in the third-place match.

Morales competed in the same class as Shaaban and won his opening match before a loss in his second match. The sophomore returned to run off four straight wins, though, including a 2-1 victory over Tashaud Nelson of Luther (Iowa) College in the consolation semifinal and a medical forfeit victory to clinch the consolation final.

Lakeland also had success in the 157 lb. Silver Division, with three wrestlers combining for 10 wins and all three placing in the top eight. Dillon Raab (So.-Spalding, Mich.) led the group, coming in third with a 4-1 record that included a pin of Adam Lancaster of Schreiner (Texas) University in the third-place match, and Will Ohman (Fr.-Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) posted a 4-2 record that included three pins and a win in the fifth-place match by forfeit.

The Muskies compete next against Concordia University Wisconsin in a dual this Thursday at 7 p.m. in Mequon.
